Created by Henri Matisse during his lifetime in his hometown, reopened on November 8, 2002 after three years of work, more than 170 works by the man whom everyone agrees to recognize as one of the greatest painters of the 20th century are offered to you.
Installed in the former Palais Fénelon since 1982, it offers a superb panorama of the work of this artist, one of the greatest of the 20th century: Seventeen exhibition rooms have been set up in the renovated Matisse museum.
The Matisse collection is installed in the body of the Palais Fénelon. Ten rooms which, in ten stages, recount the life and work of Henri Matisse Auguste Herbin's collection is arranged in the new building, in five rooms retracing the career of the artist born in Quiévy in 1882.
The Tériade room presents the donation of the famous publisher: 27 books and some 500 engravings made by the greatest artists: Chagall, Léger, Rouault, Miro, Matisse, Le Corbusier...
